Chief
Robert Schenck
I am 31 years old, I live in Flemington Borough/ Holland Township, and work for Tournament Housing Services and am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. I have been a member of the department since 2010 (15 years). I enjoy being part of the fire department because it is truly a family. I would recommend that anyone interested in volunteering take the leap and get involved. There are plenty of opportunities for people of all skill sets and ages. It's an incredibly rewarding opportunity, and my expos that I have always gotten back more from serving in this department than what I have contributed.

Deputy Chief
Nick Heitkamp
I am 29 years old and live in Raritan Township. I work for Michael Baker International as an Aviation Civil Engineer and am also a veteran of the United States Air Force. I have been a member of the Flemington Fire Department since 2013 (12 years). The part I enjoy most about being a member of the fire department is the camaraderie and friendship you build with your fellow members while still being able to serve our community. My recommendation for anyone looking to join the fire department is to jump in and put your heart into it. The experiences and connections I have made from the fire department has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally while also allowing me to give back to our great community!

Cole Kimball, From NJ, Work in Construction Joined the Fire Service in 2003. Joined Flemington in 2019. Favorite Aspect of being a Firefighter is the brother/sisterhood aspect of it. Getting to work through tough situations with folks you’re close with at the department builds some very strong bonds. I recommend firefighting to anyone who wants to help their community. That feeling of helping someone is indescribable and will keep you coming back for more.

Captain - Steamer Company
Alan Umgelter
I am 47 years old presently work as a 9-1-1 center Supervisor, and HazMat Technician with Hunterdon County, Deputy Fire Marshal for Flemington Boro and a Firefighter with NJ State Forest Fire. I am a 3rd generation Volunteer Firefighter with my grandfather being a founding member of the Kingwood Fire company, and my father has been a member for over 50 years. I am a US Coast Guard Veteran. I have been a member for 31 years, starting as a junior member in 1993, and recently completing a term as Chief. The fire department, and many emergency services is an extended family, and every member has different skills from plumbers to accounting, to computer skills, that they bring to the family. Everyone helps each other and watches out for each other. If you need a hand someone is often there to help. Volunteering is a great way to get involved in the community, you get free training, and you can give back and be involved in your community by helping your family, friends and neighbors.
